These are not your run-of-the-mill covers. These songs pay no mind to strict fidelity to the original in authorial intent, instrumentation, or even form. Who could ever re-gain the stimulus that once drove the beauty of another’s creation? Who could ever claim to acquire another’s inspiration? Only an impostor! Traduttore, traditore! Translator, traitor!

Such a stimulus or inspiration cannot be reproduced for translation’s sake. What is bestowed cannot be begotten. Only the novel inspiration of another artist can translate, or rather create a new work, an interpretation of the “original” work.

This perspective calls for the understanding that every form of creation has its origins in many things. Nothing is autochthonous. Nothing emerges from nowhere. Art is an interaction with the self, with others, with surrounding things. These musicians could cite their influences ad infinitum. The fidelity these songs have for one another is a faith in constant change. Beauty will always remain. Let the songs speak for themselves. If divinity can be placed on human tongues and consumed for spiritual fortitude, any translation is possible.
